    Examples of initiatives/ learning activities that align with the ActSEHN principles of learning:
    The course of educational settings: usage of case based and place based approach, the whole course organized for the students, to introduce the different learning settings, research of the learning setting (location) according to given questions and combining it with their own background.
    Environment and Natural Resources programme: Multidisciplinary MA program, excepting students from all backgrounds and in the first year intensive learning of key aspects of sustainability from multiple disciplinary perspectives: economy, ecology, society, ethics, etc. The second year the students decide which direction they want to take in their thesis work (usually combining two disciplines and getting two advisors). The students are free to take any course in the university and build their final project according to area of interest.
    How this initiatives related to principles set to be achieved by AchSHEN:
    Development of a participatory approach.
    Student ownership on the process of knowledge creation.
    Multidisciplinary cooperation.
    Project based learning.

    In-service teacher education: Creation of a course where home-economics teachers get to work with teachers from other disciplines. They get tasks combining chemistry and home economy teachers - learning on the chemistry of food.

    creation of multidisciplinary collaboration in learning.
    Mutual enrichment.

    Examples of initiatives/ learning activities that align with the ActSEHN principles of learning:
    Looking for new materials in fashion and design: The school is running a project in cooperation with Icelandic farmers, the aim of the initiative is to connect the work and study process to nature, culture, history and the local needs. The students work with the local community to develop ideas and products that address the challenges and the needs of the market, and after 2-3 years of development process, they get a grant for production and putting the product on the market. This project goal is to enhance teaches and students to work with food, environment and culture. The project became self sustainable and it expended into forestry and work with timber waste.
    Streets project: Architecture department initiative, each year the students choose a street and learn it from many different perspectives and methods. This connects the studies to the local community and strengthen the student connection to the city. It has also influenced on how the municipality makes decisions about public spaces, raises awareness, using the school as a research lab for the city.
    Using local settings in teacher education: A framework that aims at the personal values and looking on settings (locations) which are close to the students. The initiative brings together the students with the local actors such as botanical garden and local schools, connecting the study material to the artistic perspectives. Creation of common activities and learning outside the classrooms. Enhancing experience and connection to nature and values, where students and local children working together in their local environment. This initiative emphasis the creation of the self confidence to learn to do things differently, shows examples and create leaders. Further more, it make room for failure as a learning experience.
    How this initiatives related to principles set to be achieved by AchSHEN:
    Creation of teams and collaboration with local community, social infusion, shared-value and experience with the practical aspects of sustainability.
    Creation of new knowledge and meeting the needs of the environment, making the spaces for multidisciplinary approach.
    Creation of collaborative research to recognise the (local) needs and act upon them.
    informal settings of learning and various forms of sustainability knowledge.
